Prayer Flags for UBC Farm is a site-specific outdoor exhibition of prayer flags created by seven artists: Nicole Dextras, Lois Klassen, Brenna Maag, Julie McIntyre, Robin Ripley, Michelle Weeks, and Lori Weidenhammer. Loosely based on the tradition of Tibetan prayer flags which are hung on auspicious occasions to carry prayers on the wind, each artist is creating an original set of flags with a unique approach to this project in response to the uncertain future of UBC Farm. At a time when the university is asking for academic and financial justification for keeping UBC Farm at its current size and location, the act of creating prayer flags for the site brings up other reasons for preserving its unique ecosystem, including beauty, community, and spiritual inspiration.
