UBC Farm in July

This year the flowers are spread out along the vegetable fields instead of placed in a garden by themselves. I must admit I miss the flower garden, even though I understand it's good farming practice to move things around.

I arrived just before the market opened and there were already fifty people in line. Strawberries and radishes were sold out fast, but the trick is to stay around for the second picking.

The Beekeeper says these bees look crowded. They need more space or they will probably swarm.

These roses are by the door of the farm centre. A woman volunteering in the Landed Learning program showed me how to prune them right back and this year the blooms are gorgeous.

These starling boxes are for a psychology experiment at UBC. They don't allow the starlings to propagate, btw as they are invasive.

The following pics are from our Landed Learning Gardens. The amaranth looks so lovely next to the nasturtiums.

These are broad beans, aka fava beans.

The peas have just about overwhelmed our little garden!
