Tyndall Stone and Butterflies

On the way to The Forks it seemed as though Mourning Cloak butterflies led us there, taking turns every stage of the way. They were flitting about the bare branches, egging us onward while nesting flickers darted nervously ahead of us. We came upon milkweed pods and I explained to the boys that this plant is food for Monarch butterflies. We saw a furry little Prairie crocus, and Ullie put his hand into a large fossil in a Tyndall stone block.
