Foodapeg

We had wonderful food in The Peg, and although I didn't take photos of it all, here are a few snaps. We had brunch at Fresh, which is in the old Roca Jack's on Corydon. It was a bit too cold to eat outside, so we got a place upstairs, where is was quite busy and noisy. It was also baking hot. Ullie's crepes with lemon curd stole the show. Ingredients are locally sourced as much as possible.

We had one meal at Luxsolé, which has a farm-gate to table philosophy, but found they weren't having a good night. The deep fat fryer was broken and they were out of a lot of menu items. The pickeral cakes stood out and the Ulster's Peanut Butter Cheescake. We also liked this wine from Ontario called Twenty Bees. I was disappointed with the Schmoo Torte and found it to be an imposter! (It wasn't even a pecan chiffon!) We ended up getting the real thing a few days later at Baked Expectations, the old standby.

The next week we went to Bistro 7 1/2, accross the street which was amazing. We had a trio of salads:asparagus with hazelnut porcini vinaigrette, baby potato with dill crème fraîche, and beet with goat cheese, house-cured gravlax: salmon gravlax with lobster deviled egg, red onion pickle and capers, duck confit, and moules et frites. The beet and goat cheese stack in particular was packed with bright flavors. When you order a warm, crusty baguette it comes with s fennel and onion relish that blew me way. They should really put that in jars and sell it, it's so addictive. The staff all worked like a tight team in the small space and I loved the pale sky and chocolate color scheme.
