Seed Ball Lovecraft

You mix red clay powder, soil, seeds (anise hyssop, California poppy, mustard, phacelia, cumin, crimson clover et al), and water. You conjure happy memories of childhood mud pills and pies. You meet a group of funky people who care about the ecology of this city including a gardener from North Van (via Egypt) who has a banana tree in his backyard and a young activist who teaches ecology to grade seven students. You pack the seed balls into pizza boxes and egg cartons and take them home to dry out for three days. Then you gently toss them into vacant lots and crevices in the concrete where lovecraft can germinate. The pollinators will be nourished. Children will pick mustard flowers and put them in their hair. Before eco-density swallows our greenspaces let's make them bloom, bloom, bloom.

For more information join the Vancouver Guerilla Gardeners today! I will be giving out these seed balls free of charge to people at the Tupper Greenway this Saturday, March 8 from 10 am to 4 pm. Finally, thanks to all the wonderful people who have been giving me seeds for this lovecraft.

(These little guys were in the space where we had the workshop.)
